July 30th at 6:30pm is the next NHCOG 5th Thursday forum. Special Topic: Shaping Livable Communities & Promoting Aging in Place. Guest Speaker: Alyssa Norwood, JD, MPH of Connecticut’s Commission on Aging.
Thursday, July 30, 2015 @ 6:30pm at the new NHCOG office (59 Torrington Rd, Goshen, CT). To celebrate our new office and community meeting space, we will serve quiche, salad, and ice cream! (Dinner will be served at 6:30; program will start at 7pm.)
This forum is another opportunity to meet your fellow land use commission members and hear about planning and zoning efforts in the region. The program will answer the following questions:
- What percentage of my town’s population is over 65yrs old? How is this expected to change?
- What defines a “livable community” & how does my town assess its “livability”?
- What strategies are Connecticut towns using to work towards more livable communities?
Also, hear about progress on the 8-town shared economic development services for small towns project (to create jobs & keep our village center’s vital) and our regional food hub feasibility project (to support local farms and connect them with new markets).
