Mapping and Data Resources

The Northwest Hills COG is working to advance the digital mapping capacity within the region. At the moment, about half of the 21 towns in the region have an existing GIS (geographic information service) program. The NHCOG has the capacity to create maps using existing content, which expands with each project.

Regional Map Viewer

This map viewer, created by NHCOG, collates available data sets including regional trails, political boundaries, hydrography, major roads, groundwater quality, etc. This viewer is available from the NHCOG homepage and at this link: Regional Map Viewer. Instructions on how to use the Regional Map Viewer will be available soon.

Regional Trails

Over the spring and summer of 2017, our consultant, Housatonic Valley Association, and our Regional Trails Committee worked to craft a number of maps that highlight the tremendous trail assets we have in the region and identify key opportunities for trail connectivity. The products are an Interactive Online Regional Trail Map, a Regional Trail Map and Connectivity Assessment Report (see the high-resolution Regional Trail Map here), Regional Trail Master Spreadsheet, and a Regional Trail Maps of Current and Proposed Trail Networks. The online regional trail viewer may also be accessed through the Regional Map Viewer described above or on our Regional Trails Page.

We hope that this will highlight the incredible work of regional land trusts and conservation organizations, support tourism opportunities, and increase trail access for our residents.
